Group Focus

Whether your loss happened months or years ago and it was a death, an illness, a broken relationship, or a lost chapter of life, it can leave you feeling stuck, isolated, and heavy with the weight of it. It may feel like you are just waiting for grief to be “over” so that your life can begin again, you can come back to your body, and you can re-build.

This 9-week, closed group will create a safe space for you to be with others, heal in community, and finding a new way of moving through life with grief.

Participants: Individuals 18 and over are welcomed to participate in our groups. This is a group for active grieving. Anticipatory grief groups will be forthcoming. Follow our newsletter for more!

This is a closed group series, meaning we will close entry for new participants after our 2nd session. We want to respect our fellow participants by encouraging people to attend the full, 9-week series.

Cost: The group is $65 per session with sliding scale spots of $45 - $65 per session for those who need them.

Where: We will be hosting a recurring series of Let Me Grieve grief groups throughout LA county. We will also be creating other grief groups to expand on the series and hone into specific grief.

Our upcoming groups will be held in Highland Park and Long Beach. Virtual groups will be held winter 2026.

This is a warm, inclusive, and trauma-informed container designed to help you move from simply surviving your grief to being present in your grief. Facilitated by Melissa Velasquez, ASW and Sarita Barnes, ASW.

Meet the Facilitators

Hi there! I’m Melissa (she/her/ella), a Guatemalan, bilingual neurodivergent therapist who specializes in therapy approaches using decolonial lens. Somatic and parts work are vital approaches I use to ensure that we are able to witness whatever moment arises in therapy. I believe that a therapeutic space should be an environment where you can show up as your authentic self as we build safety together. Whether its navigating all the emotions that come with living within a broken system, learning how to break generational traumas or just learning how to exist in an environment that thrives on burnout, I am here to support you in whatever capacity you enter.

  • Support our community through our Pay It Forward Tier ($65). By selecting this full price contribution, you can directly subsidize accessible care that will allow us to offer sliding-scale options for our community members who need it.

  • Our Sustainability Tier ($55) is for those who can comfortably contribute at a low cost, directly supporting the ongoing sustainability of our grief groups while keeping space open for everyone.

  • Our Solidarity Tier ($45) is tailored for anyone needing a more affordable option, ensuring you can fully participate and receive care without the financial strain of a full therapy session cost.
